Constitution Day

September 17th is Constitution Day!  Mrs. Burgess (enrichment specialist) and I have collaborated on an art activity for our 4th and 5th graders.  We read “We The Kids” by David Catrow, an awesome illustrator and writer.  We checked out images of the Constitution from the National Archives and we learned about Jacob Shallus the clerk who was paid $30 to prepare the document.

Finally, we tried our hand at pen and ink.   It was much harder than we thought!

Thanks for inviting me to check out the blog. What a pleasant surprise to see that you’ve posted information about Constitution Day. I agree that the book by David Catrow is great and I’m glad you like him as an illustrator. The “penmanship” of the students looks great and I can’t wait to see them write on the official document on Constitution Day. Way to go, Ms. Lagerstam!
